From the moment we all met in band camp in August of 2021, us Bones and Tones knew we had to be the best section, not just in Hampshire High School, but in the entire world. For the marching band season, we strived to make ourselves known by blasting all our notes and being close enough to our dots. Though it was everybody's first year marching, we knew we were on track to hit our goal once we obtained the Best Section Award.
The next year, we put our heads in the game to secure our spot as the greatest section ever. We kickstarted our social media empire by posting seven memes every week for eight months, stopping only due to a great tragedy. We also created a TikTok account, which has a comically low amount of content. We had also vastly improved in-school. The Bones & Tones section had a record 14 members, making us the biggest wind section at HHS.
We started our goal of national domination in June 2023 when nine members of our glorious section traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to spread awareness of trombones. For five days, we stayed in Music City to introduce the greatest part of music history to the almost 700,000 residents of the area.
Today, we are the second greatest band section in the world, only behind the Ohio State Trombones. However, we will never forget our humble beginnings in the marching lot of Hampshire High School.
Monday, June 12, 2023. After a nine-hour bus ride to Nashville, followed by dinner and a short walk around the city, we had arrived at the hotel. Gibby, Jade, and Jacob were tired, but not tired enough to pass playing Cards Against Humanity with saxophonist Andrew.
They played for a long time, or so it felt. Occasionally, there was a few laughs at a card, but one card stood out from the others. The prompt was given.
HELP WANTED: Need assistance with _____. No experience necessary.
It seemed like just a normal card with normal answers, until the last response card was revealed. Jade had played the card "Website." And thus, a new inside joke was born. It remained a joke until Wednesday night, when Jade looked up domain prices out of curiosity. GoDaddy.com was offering the first year of having a domain for only three dollars. She did not eat a lot for lunch the day before and had enough money left on her Visa gift card to pay for it. That is the story of how we used money given to us by the school to purchase a website.
